An Easy Way for IE Students to Find a Place in Madrid

Spotahome is an online booking service helping students to find accommodation in a number of cities in Spain, Italy, and Belgium. Created by IE alumni, it provides extensive information on rooms, apartments and dormitories in various neighborhoods. The people behind Spotahomehave prepared a guide complete with places of interest and some video tours to boot

Listed among the best business schools in Spain, IE is situated in Salamanca, one of the nation’s richest neighborhoods. Close by are Prosperidad and Rios Rosas, each adding something different to the overall atmosphere of Madrid.

An Overview of Madrid Neighborhoods

Salamanca

Right at the heart of Madrid, Salamanca is home to numerous shops and restaurants at the city’s Golden Mile, the famous sporting arena Palacio de losDeportes, and the BuenRetiro public park with its large artificial pond and beautiful sculptures. If you find accommodation in the north of the neighborhood, you can get to IE on foot. Students living in the south need to take a bus, but it’s still not very far away. The Panela restaurant offers delicious food and coffee, while Makkila is a nice place to stop by for a beer.

Guindalera

Many IE students choose Guindalera, since it’s close to the campus and the Intercambiador de Avenida de América bus station which connects the neighborhood with the Eastern suburbs and other cities like Barcelona or Malaga. There’s also the Las Ventas bullring which serves as a venue not only for the traditional Spanish entertainment, but also for concerts and stage plays. Students living in Guindalera can get to IE on foot, by bus or subway.

Prosperidad

It’s easy to see the attraction of Prosperidad (or La Prospe as it is often called) for those who prefer living in a nice and quiet neighborhood where nobody makes a fuss. One of the longest streets in Madrid, Calle Lopez de Hoyos can meet all your shopping needs. Whether you like classical music or Spanish folk melodies, Auditorio Nacional de Música is thevenue you should definitely check out. Getting to IE from here is, once again, very easy: you take the bus to either Serrano-Maria de Molina or Velazquez-Maria de Molina and walk the rest of the way.

Almagro

Almagrois perfectly placed, right between the shopping hub Malasaña and the classy Chueca. The heart of Madrid is just a short bus ride away. Start your day with a visit toPancomido Café for coffee and pastries or drink a glass of refreshing juice at Macedonia Fruit Café.MuseoSorolla is the place to unwind after a busy week of studying, while La Parcelita can supply you with much needed nourishment during a lunch break.

Trafalgar

Accommodation in Trafalgar is much sought after, since it’s close both to Malasaña and the Moncloa/Argüelles area with its numerous university campuses. Calle de Fuencarral is one of the most popular shopping streets in Madrid due mainly to the fact that many of its shops don’t take a day off on Sundays. By taking the bus to Maria de Molina-Serrano, you will arrive at campus in just a short while, or you can travel by subway from one of the stations in the area.

Rios Rosas

Rios Rosas is a peaceful residential neighborhood which is still not far away from the center. Its main attraction is the Parque de TercerDepósito, a huge park amply suited for strolls, picnics, and quiet contemplation, as well as various sports activities. For more sporting options, look to Canal Isabel II which has a swimming pool, paddle tennis courts, a running track, and a golf center. If you’re curious about the unique Andalusian cuisine, be sure to visit Bar Lambuzo. At Teatros Canal, you can always find something interesting for a more cultured evening. Taking Line 7 subway to Gregorio Marañón will get you within a short walking distance from the IE campus. Alternatively, you can hop on a bus and get off at the Maria de Molina-Serrano.

Alonso Martinez

The Alonso Martinez neighborhood somewhat resembles Paris while still preserving a distinctly Madrid atmosphere. All the major shopping streets and cultural centers are close by. There are plenty of delicious options to satisfy the most fastidious eaters: Juicy Avenue, Mama Framboise, Poncelet, Dray Martina, Lady Madonna, and others. IE students will have no problems getting to class: either the No. 7 bus will take you to Plaza Doctor Marañón and you walk from there, or you go on the subway toGregorio Marañón.
