This year’s summer will bring good news for aspiring business students: a new Master of Science in Entrepreneurship program will be launched at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
The application process for this new school will begin in January 2017, with application deadlines on January 27 (international) and February 28 (American).
What’s new about it?
It’s no secret that many students planning to undertake the difficult task of obtaining a university business degree have met with one obvious obstacle: most programs are just too long. Not everyone is ready to leave work and family and immerse into studies for two solid years. That is why this new program will last only for twelve months, and is predicted to be extremely popular.
New features
One of the new and appealing gimmicks implemented in this program will be the opportunity to develop real life ideas for startups. Ben Hallen, a faculty member, says that it will be a real treat for students who already have a degree in science or tech and want to nurture their own ideas even several years after college.
In accordance with this novelty, the program will include courses aimed at budding business leaders, such as Finance for Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurial Marketing etc. It definitely captures the idea expressed in the school’s motto on their website which says, “Entrepreneurial to the core”.
No wonder that the new school will be situated in Seattle – a city literally crawling with startup hubs and opportunities for future entrepreneurs. Thus, the program’s graduates will be able to contact companies like Microsoft or Amazon and launch a job there while completing the ideas for their own brands. While studying, they will have consultations and networking from Seattle’s best business leaders and investors.
The courses on the new program will be taught both by Seattle entrepreneurs (angel investors, attorneys and venture capitalists) and the University of Washington’s professors. All the coursework will be built on the leading startup principle: first learn a thing, then put it into practice immediately. As the school’s officials put it, “here, you will learn the difference between a good idea and a great business”. Everything you might have dreamed to learn about startups will be clustered in this new program.
