5-Step Checklist Before Submitting Your Applications

Sending an application to a business school is an exhausting and difficult task. It always makes people nervous, as there are countless possibilities to think of: “What if they don’t like my essay? What if I get rejected?”.

Stop worrying and finish your application

The following rules apply to any aspiring Master’s student, no matter if it’s about getting into a business, medical law or any other university. Before you send your papers to the admissions committee, check them against these five steps.

What to do before clicking on “submit”

1. Make sure that your essays show you as a diverse and interesting personality

All passages of your application paper should be interconnected and make a clear, logical picture of who you are as a person and a professional. People who will read your texts should be able to grasp the whole picture at once.

2. Show that you will be a valuable part of the b-school team

Every university looks for candidates who fit in like a hand fits in a glove. To prove that you are the applicant they’re seeking, you have to analyze what personality traits make you suitable for your intended program. Study the school’s web page to learn more about their university culture and traditions; talk to former or current students to see what life on campus is like. Then, use your essay to show your compatibility with the school.

3. Your recommendation letters should be written by people who know you

Don’t try to get a recommendation from someone who holds a respectable position just for the sake of it. Much more important is to make sure that person knows all about you. Only people who have worked with you or taught you can characterize you sincerely and objectively. Generic recommendations are not usually well-regarded by admissions committees.

4. Re-read your application as many times as possible

It’s vital that you find all minor mistakes you could have made because of tiredness or just because you were inattentive. Ask your family and friends to proofread your essays for you, or use the services of a professional consultant.

5. Don’t send your papers at the last moment

Try to submit your application in advance. If you are in a hurry, you will be more prone to mistakes and inconsistencies in your papers. You even might be late with your submission if the school’s web site is down because everybody is trying to access it at the last minute.

What to do if you cannot find a school that fits you the most?

Former MBA students advise to choose a business school carefully. There is reason to spend time learning more about the school, its professors and available programs. The best way to do this is to join some of thematic events where any MBA applicant can get all necessary information about business schools and compare them.
