Entering a higher education institution requires a lot of cash. You will have to pay for tuition and basic necessities for two to three years, all the time while being out of a job. For many prospective students, it may seem bordering on the impossible, even if you get a student loan or a scholarship.
That’s why Market Inspector has made up a list of the most expensive British universities. In this ranking, they have accounted for everything – from tuition to apartment rent to food and books. The vast majority of UK’s most costly universities are situated in London and in the Estuary, mostly because of high rents. Several of them, though, can be found in Britain’s other large cities.
#17 The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
A rather posh university focused primarily on acting, where famous British actors such as Judi Dench and Laurence Olivier have studied. Tuition fees here are up to 9,250 pounds, and the total cost of studying there will amount to 21,982 pounds.
#16 Kingston University
This higher education institution is headquartered in Kingston-upon-Thames. While certainly less costly than London universities, this one still requires a 9,250 tuition fee and a 22,058 overall cost.
#15 Leeds Beckett University
Another contender from outside the capital range. Although situated far from London, this university is one of Britain’s largest and most well-known. Here, you have to be prepared to cash in for 9,250 in tuition fees and 22,330 overall.
#14 University of Westminster
One of the ‘youngest’ British higher education centers – it’s not even 25 years old. It’s one of the best schools in the world teaching communications and media. The tuition here equals 9,250 pounds, and the total cost of studies is 22,810.
#13 London Metropolitan University
In spite of often getting the lowest place in all British rankings, this university is still among the most costly. The reason for it is its situation – very close to London downtown. To study there, you have to pay 9,250 for tuition and 23,000 overall.
#12 Middlesex University
This is another London education center, which makes the price for tuition rather high – 9,250 pounds, while the total cost of living is 23,040 pounds.
#11 School of African and Oriental Studies
Here, they teach oriental languages, such as Mandarin Chinese and Arabic, as well as others along the line. The university is situated in Bloomsbury, next to some other famous schools. The tuition fee here costs 9,250, while the overall cost is 23,996.
#10 Imperial College
This school has often occupied top spots in British university rankings. Its main focus is on science, and 15 Nobel Prize winners have graduated from it. The tuition fees here equal 9,250, and the total cost is 24,186.
#9 Royal Academy of Music
A world-famous university teaching musical arts. Among its alumni are such well-known stars as Elton John and Annie Lennox. The cost of tuition is no less than 9,250, while the overall cost is 24,312.

#8 Oxford Brookes University
Being a smaller version of the famous Oxford University, this school is one of Britain’s most expensive due to its being headquartered in Oxford. Its tuition cost amounts up to 9,250, and the total cost of living is 24,450.
#7 City University London
Another Londoner on the list. This one teachers highly practical professions like nursing and journalism. Its headquarters are very close to the City. Hence, to study there, you’ll have to pay 9,250, and living there takes 24,468 pounds.
#6 University of Oxford
This one does not need introduction – its one of the world’s top schools, notoriously hard to get accepted to and equally expensive: 9,250 and 24,760 for tuition and overall costs correspondingly.
#5 London School of Economics and Political Science
This school also lies in the very heart of the capital, and is largely focused on research. It has produced the most significant amount of Nobel winners in the UK. Its tuition fees cost 9,250 pounds, while the total cost amounts to 25,546 pounds.
#4 University College London
One of Britain’s oldest, it has produced many famous politicians, such as governors and viceroys, as well as diplomats and ambassadors. Tuition fee here is 9,250, while the total cost equals 25,664.
#3 University of the Arts
This London-based higher education institution is acclaimed as one of the world’s best art and design schools. Studying here costs 9,250 and 25,776 correspondingly.
#2 Royal College of Music
This school is headquartered in South Kensington. Its famous alumni are Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gustav Holst. The tuition cost is 9,250, and the overall living cost 26,518.
#1 Regent’s University
This one occupies the top spot, being a private institution and having no limitations upon its tuition fees. Unlike all other contenders on this list, its tuition fees are a whopping 16,400 pounds, and the total cost will equal no less than 38,854 pounds.
