Trends in education of 2020

Online teaching and learning through the last years have become very popular and looks like the popularity will only increase and gain momentum. For the education digital learning is getting a steady way of receiving instructions, access to different information, supporting better academic performance and students progress.

Modern students are more often admitted to virtual classrooms, take a curse online or prefer blended sessions, get tasks and perform them being graded in online report card. And as a result, doing their degree online. Technology will play a key role in examination, certification, content sharing and in higher education in 2020. As to the latest study by Cisco, by the end of 2019 more than 80% of the internet traffic would be driving by video consumption and it will only increase in 2020. For now more than 2.3 billions of people are active users of YouTube and watching videos of educational and entertainment character.

Video has already become an instrument for learning aims. Students of different age all over the world prefer to watch videos instead of long reading, for better understanding and memorizing.

The industry of video production, distribution and hosting online is becoming cost efficient and inexpensive. Many new applications for video editing and creation are appearing daily. To stay abreast for modern higher education institutions it's better to adopt a video-based studying process. It's also advisable to encourage students to study online for acceleration the process of obtaining and assimilating the knowledge.

2. Self-Paced Learning

Self-study mode is a basic of online learning and technology can help students to use the convenient form of e-learning. Also students can choose their own speed because many universities have variety of online courses. They just need to manage their own time for attending couple of compulsory courses per semester. Students gain knowledge in their own pace and figuring out new concepts with unique and personalized methods without traditional teaching. Full evaluation happens using online assessment.

3. Virtual Reality

In 2020 Virtual Reality (VR) will continue to develop also in educational field and will be more wide used for learning. VR is becoming cost-efficient for dynamic learning because it shows things right in front of you with a feeling of their presence and reality. And as a perspective industry VR evolving very fast.

4. Podcasting

In 2020 there will be an increase of podcasts channels emergency. And in a while higher education institutions will use podcasting as educational and a brand-building tool. Trainers and educators would record their lectures for students on self paced learning to use them any time they need. So it gives more freedom and flexibility for students to deal with the issues, specify some concepts, review study at convenient time.

Also the education podcast can be the solution and help for the students with visual impairments.

5. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI has already found huge amount of use cases and the scope of application is broad and approaching us to a technological future. AI also becoming very useful for higher education. The sphere of implementation is very different, from facial recognition (institutions can easily monitor attendance of their students using daily photos), to secure exams online and offline (inspecting exams without physical observer, identification of cheating).

In 2020 more technologies will be used in educational purposes as well. Here are some of them: blockchain, Internet of Thing (IoT) (helping people in many fields already), chatbots (can manage students requests, automatically processing the submissions, ect). Online exams and online assessment with the help of technology and data-driven analysis can help to shorten and simply examination and it's evaluation and also eliminate prejudice while assessment.

These days many business schools have increased their online executive education courses. This trend is gaining momentum already for 3-4 years and now there is a huge range of relevant offerings like artificial intelligence and blockchain.

It often happens that the whole classes, like mathematics or accountancy, are accessible online and students can implement them at their own pace.

Three years ago many schools were offering none or one executive online education course, but since that time the proposals have impressively increased. At the University of North Carolina's Kenan Flagler School of Business, for example, now proposes 10 online open enrollment executive education courses.

To be deeply in trend, schools are inviting superstar educators for many of these online courses.

The true successful example of the early leaders in this field is Wharton. In 2015 the school made massive investment in online learning and started with six full classes. These days Wharton offers 60 online courses, from the business of health care to management and leadership.

Columbia Business School proposes 24 online courses and Stanford's Lead Program boasts 23 online programs.

Surprisingly online executive education classes are inviting students to come to campus and continue their learning offline.

It looks like that online MBAs and EMBAs can perfectly coexist and even improve each other. The business education market can be increased due to different part-time MBA programs. These programs will expend accessibility for the busy professionals of all ages and from different parts of the world.
